Talking Point #1

Rowe-Finkbeiner
The F-Word
Argument
This author, Kristin Rowe-Finkbeiner, argues that women today (or in 2008, when it was written) do not feel a strong need to pursue the women's rights movement. She states that women, or at least a vast majority of women are too busy with their daily lives to recognize the need to pursue the cause. She also states that not only are they too busy to notice the current need to fight but take the past accomplishments of the fight for granted. She then goes on to explain the course of events and accomplishments that took place during the first 2 waves of the fight.
She goes on to explain that the third wave, the women of today, seem to be working to fight against some the inequalities that still exist but on a much smaller scale than in years past. She states that women feel that they are fighting individually instead of as a united force. Women see the inequalities as more cultural than based on sex alone.
Her point is she takes her responsibility seriously and wants others to know that the fight needs to continue in large numbers with a strong voice. That inequality whether it be because of race, sex, financial status, or any other reason, should not exist and the only way to make it happen is to continue to fight the fight.
I may be way off base but this is what I took from the article. Then I did a little google work and found an article that explained the three waves in a similiar fashion.

I am curious to know how many of the females in the class feel that they need to fight for the cause or if they are just too busy to actually be active. Maybe this could be a quick class survey question.

  1. Funny to look at now with how far woman have came. In a way, I think all woman/man should have some role no matter what it is because every household needs certain tasks completed to run smoothly. It doesn't have to be just a woman or man doing the certain jobs. Some people will always have older mind set beliefs and never give them up :) They need to be more open-minded. lol
